The mayor of Bilbao has also called on public sector unions to reflect, because “the trade union struggle is not one that harms citizens in their daily lives.”

The Mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburtothe municipal group has asked PP that the new Security Pact to be developed in the current mandate be added and not omitted from “such an important issue for criticizing or questioning” the municipal government.

In it complete condition of the villa Next Friday, in Bilbao City Council, Aburto hopes that the new Security Pact, “a multi-party agreement that has been worked on for months and that has the contributions of all the political groups” of the city council, “will involve us in improving perception, reducing possible insecurity in the city and serving to increase personal and collective security”.

In this sense, he has asked the Partido Popular of Bilbao to join this pact that “brings together some of their proposals, as well as those of all the groups”, and regrets that the Popular Party has decided “to stay outside the consensus and to continue the work to improve in this area”.

After stressing that Bilbao “is a city with a memory, with respect for justice, truth and recognition of its victims”, he assured that the victims “do not understand” the absence of the PP at this forum and “nor does society in general”.

“If this country is to heal its wounds, it must do so with real and sincere effort from everyone. Adding salt to the wounds only reopens them,” he said, adding that new generations “must be aware that the world did not begin with them,” but rather “the history and the people of this country have a past and a present and we all agree that we want them to have a better future.”

“We are not an oasis, but we do not want to be overwhelmed by lies, insults, threats, malpractices, disrespect, behaviors and positions that we thought had been forgotten from those forty years of infamous memory,” he stated.

Trade unions

During his speech, Aburto also called for reflection among public sector unions, warning them that “the trade union struggle “It is not what harms citizens in their daily lives, in their quality of life.”

As he has defended, “discussions should be held at the table, expressing opinions, negotiating and seeking agreements, and not on the streets.” In this sense, he stated that “what we have sometimes suffered in our streets are not union protests,” but rather “in many cases a real lack of respect for the people of Bilbao and their representatives.”

Other times, he complained, “he listened to certain people and read some messages, then it seemed that the state of this Villa was that of a yellow city full of events.” “But no, far from it, this is not Bilbao, I deny it outright,” he declared.
