With fake “Peckerl” – Frequency: Gewessler promotes climate map tattoos

Date:

Not only SPÖ boss Andreas Babler visited the Frequency Festival in St. Pölten over the weekend, Environment Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) was also present on Thursday. Not so much to celebrate, but to promote a tattoo campaign. Anyone who has a motif engraved for a climate ticket at the festival will receive the public transport ticket for free for a year. However, the minister himself opted for a “fake candy”.

“This action gets under your skin” – this was the slogan of One Mobility GmbH, which sells the climate ticket in Austria. “The feedback at the festivals has been extremely positive,” says Jakob Lambert, Managing Director of One Mobility GmbH.

Criticism on Instagram
The choice of motive for the free climate ticket was limited to the festival visitors, it had to be the subject of the climate ticket, explains Lambert. So far, a total of six people have received the free Austrian-wide climate ticket for one year. “None of them got the first tattoo of their life, it was more people who already have a few and have another now,” Lambert said in an interview with APA on Saturday. In addition, only adults would be tattooed, the action would take place in the early afternoon and not in the evening.

The campaign at the Electric Love Festival in Salzburg took place six weeks ago. On Instagram, users criticized and asked, among other things, whether it was an exemplary action to motivate young adults to get tattooed. “Personal responsibility,” replied the operator of the climate ticket’s Instagram account.

Free “Peckerl” with climatic motifs
In total, about ten tattoos per day were and are being made among festival visitors – in addition to the climate card, there are other designs that all have to do with public transport, sustainability and climate and that are engraved free of charge. “The campaign is extremely well received by the target group, there are an extreme number of visitors who want to embellish their bodies with tattoos,” explains Lambert.

Environment Minister Gewessler also visited the Frequency Festival in St. Pölten and the climate map booth on Thursday. She herself has opted for a children’s tattoo that is washable – this is also offered. The campaign has been “received very positively by the festival guests”, according to a spokeswoman for the minister.

245,000 Austrians have a climate ticket
In any case, no further events of this nature are scheduled for this year, according to Lambert. “We don’t know yet if there will be a repeat next year.” The climate card is an annual ticket for almost all public transport in Austria. This means that passengers can travel throughout Austria for three euros per day – a total of 1095 euros per year. At the moment, 245,000 people have an Austrian climate ticket. Regional climate maps are also available.
