Commission President Ursula von der Leyen plans to present her list of new team members and portfolios in Strasbourg on Tuesday, her chief spokesman Eric Mamer confirmed on the online platform X on Tuesday morning.
Von der Leyen will meet the leaders of the parties in the EU Parliament from 9am to discuss her list. A presentation of the new commission to the press is then planned.
The presentation of the new European Commission was only decided at the end: after the sudden withdrawal of French EU Commissioner Thierry Breton and the subsequent appointment of Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné, the formal appointment of Slovenian candidate Marta Kos is still missing.
Finance Minister Brunner in talks with the Economics Department
Von der Leyen said on X on Monday evening that she had “taken note” of Breton’s resignation and thanked him for his work. Vice-President Margrethe Vestager will take over Breton’s duties on an interim basis. Austria has nominated Finance Minister Magnus Brunner (ÖVP). He is being discussed for an economics department.
