The Basque Government activates internally the transfer of economic management of social security

The Basque Parliament Commission has welcomed the arrival of the Minister of Governance, Digital Governance and Self-Government, María Ubarretxena, to report on the objectives for the legislature.

The Minister of Governance, Digital Governance and Self-Government, Maria Ubarretxenahas announced that it has already started working “internally” on the transfer of management of the economic regime of social security. In addition, it has chosen “a new legal pact for Euskadi” and expressed his department’s willingness to “assist the parliamentary groups in that process”.

This Tuesday, the Basque Parliament’s Committee on Institutions, Public Administration and Security welcomed the appearance of the adviser, at her own request, to report on the commitments, objectives and main lines of action that her department has planned for the 13th legislature.

In her speech, the confidential counselor emphasized that this is necessary “to defend, expand and improve self-government”and has indicated that “that will be his department’s priority this term.”

In this sense, it has committed itself to “complying with the Gernika Statute in its entirety and transferring pending powers”, and on the other hand, it has opted for “a new Statutory Pact for Euskadi”.

Although he has acknowledged this “new status” It is a matter of “it being up to Parliament to implement and reach agreements”, he said, expressing his department’s willingness to “assist in that process”.

Ubarretxena has advocated promoting “dialogue and the will to agree to unblock the power system” and has reported that “the Basque government has identified the powers that still need to be transferred and that the regional government has recognized them.”

“We want to avoid the legalisation of the transferred powers. We are not going to take a step back and we are going to concretise the powers that are pending the transfer, with a view to full compliance with the Gernika Statute,” he stressed.

In this regard, he reported that they are working to Bilateral Cooperation Commission before the end of October.

As detailed, there are In total, 29 skills still need to be transferred six of which are “more advanced”, as a text has already been sent to the state.
