At a meeting in front of the city hall of Donostia-San Sebastián, they denounced that “the difficulty of making public policies in favor of Basque and linguistic equality is increasing.”
Euskalgintzaren Kontseilua and the Association of Euskaltzales of Donostia, Bagera, have demanded that the institutions develop new regulations that provide legal certainty for the revitalisation of the Basque language.
The organizations gathered in front of the Donostia-San Sebastián City Council to denounce the cancellation of the knowledge of Basque by the Supreme Court of Justice of the Basque Country (TSJPV) in the call for the recruitment of agents of the Municipal Police of Donostia-San. Sebastian.
They have denounced these sentences against the Basque language and ensured that “we are in the midst of a linguistic emergency.”
They have stressed that this last sentence is “particularly serious” because of the direct relationship between municipal police officers and citizens. For this reason, they have shown their “support” to the Donostia City Council in submitting its appeal against “this attack on the normalization of the Basque Country”.
Likewise, they called on social and political actors to bring the language issue to the forefront and demanded “courageous steps” and “concrete measures leading to the guarantee of language equality.”
