Stevie Wonder (74) wants to use his icon status again to convey a political message. In the run-up to the approaching American presidential elections, he will go on tour in October and propagate the motto ‘Joy over anger, kindness over guilt, peace over war’, according to the soul musician.
The tour, titled Sing Your Song! “As We Fix Our Nation’s Broken Heart,” features ten shows in eight U.S. states, including politically contested swing states Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia and North Carolina.
Appearance at the Democratic Convention
Wonder was already present at the American Democratic Party convention in Chicago in August to support the campaign of presidential candidate Kamala Harris. There he sang his hit ‘Higher Ground’ and in a short speech called on voters to cast their ballots on November 5 for ‘Joy instead of Anger’, that is, for Harris instead of her Republican competitor Donald Trump. He did not take sides so explicitly in his tour announcement, even though the motto remains the same.

The 25-time Grammy winner and author of groundbreaking ’70s albums (“Innervisions,” “Songs In The Key Of Life”) recently made his debut with the song “Can We Fix Our Nation’s Broken Heart,” a plea for unity as the first song released in four years.
