Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is once again making people sit up with a hard-hitting declaration of war. If he wins, he wants to make sure the US takes jobs from Germany and other countries.
“We will take jobs from other countries,” Trump said Tuesday during a campaign appearance in Savannah, Georgia. “I want German car companies to become American car companies.”
“We will take over their factories,” Trump continued to agitate. If he returns to the White House, he will also ensure that American companies like General Electric and IBM, which have left the US, “return to our shores with regret.”
He wants to do this by giving companies “the lowest taxes, the lowest energy costs, the lowest regulatory burden, and unfettered access to the best and largest market in the world” — but only on the condition that they manufacture in the U.S. If they chose not to manufacture their products in the U.S., they would face high tariffs when they imported them into the U.S.
“Germany was destroying itself”
Once again, the real estate billionaire made disparaging remarks and false claims about Germany’s energy transition. Under Chancellor Angela Merkel’s (CDU) government, Germany decided to phase out fossil fuel energy production. “Germany was destroying itself,” Trump said. Then Merkel was replaced “by someone else” “who is now building a new coal-fired power plant in Germany every week.”
In the US presidential election on November 5, Trump and Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris will face each other. In the polls, they are neck and neck.
