The culture of discussion in politics sometimes leaves much to be desired. Although you would expect our representatives to create a respectful and constructive atmosphere in which it is possible to work together on solutions to the problems of our country, things often get heated, especially during elections. What can be done to improve the situation?
One person in particular repeatedly stands out with questionable statements and often causes a wave of indignation. Whether it is the notorious ‘inbreeding sayer’ or his comments on the death penalty: provocation seems to be the preferred method. It is understandable that this does not lead to a good climate between the different parties. Factual arguments instead of personal attacks and populist statements would probably make more sense…
What do you think about the current culture of discussion in Austrian politics? Which recent statements during the election campaign did you find most problematic and why? What do you think is the most effective way to improve the culture of political discussion? What would you like to see politicians and political parties do in their dealings with each other? We look forward to sharing your thoughts and opinions on this important topic. Feel free to leave a comment!
