After a verbal attack, Trump turns and punches Zelensky

Date:

After US presidential candidate Donald Trump accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of delaying the end of the war, the two are now meeting in the US.

“I will meet him tomorrow around 9:45 a.m. at Trump Tower,” the real estate mogul said Thursday. Just a day earlier, it didn’t seem like this meeting would happen. Trump attacked Zelensky, accusing him of not agreeing to a “deal” to end the war despite billions in American payments.

Zelensky indirectly warned of a Trump election victory
In Washington, Zelensky met for the first time with Democratic incumbent Joe Biden, who gave the Ukrainians billions in additional aid for his country just months before leaving the White House. US Vice President Kamala Harris, who wants to replace Biden at the head of the government after the elections in November, also promised support for Zelensky and indirectly warned of an election victory for her opponent Trump.

Zelensky shared a video with Harris and called for a “just peace” in the commentary:

Harris, citing Trump’s statements, warned that any decision on ending the war should not be made without Ukraine. But there are ‘some’ in the US who want that. Their plan is to force Ukraine to give up large parts of its territory, accept its country’s neutral status and relinquish the security obligations of other states.

Biden has released new funds for Kiev
The Biden-Harris administration has massively supported Ukraine in the fight against Russia over the past two and a half years and has provided $58.7 billion (52.5 billion euros) in military aid since the start of the war in February 2022. Of this, $2.4 billion consists of funds released by Biden during Zelensky’s visit to Washington. The US president emphasized that he had also ensured that billions in aid already promised would not expire and would be available by the end of his term in January. According to the White House, this amounts to $5.5 billion.

Washington’s new aid package includes another Patriot air defense system, long-range glide bombs and drones. The US also wants to support the training of another 18 Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets. The American-made planes are supplied by other countries, but the U.S. government participates in the training program

Trump could no longer support Kiev at all
The outcome of the American elections could have enormous consequences for the course of the war. In Ukraine, there are fears that the US could be largely eliminated as the country’s main supporter in defense against Russia if Trump wins the November 5 presidential election against Harris. Trump has indicated that if he wins the election, he will dramatically reduce or even end support for Kiev.
