As EITB Media has learned, the current Provincial Council spokesperson and Deputy for Government will participate in the 2023 municipal and regional elections with the aim of replacing Markel Olano.

Elder Mendoza will be the candidate Basque Nationalist Party deputy general of Gipuzkoa in the next elections, as presented by the Gipuzkoako Buru Batzar to the members of the PNV of the area.
Therefore, Mendoza will compete to replace the current deputy general, Markel Olano, in the regional elections of 2023.
Mendoza is currently spokesperson for the foral institution and deputy for Governance. Born in Azpeitia, Hondarribitarra studied business administration at the University of Bordeaux, France.
The GBB has emphasized its professional capacity and experience, both in the Basque Parliament and the General Assemblies and in the Provincial Council. As he explained, “it has the strength of a team like the PNV to continue developing the political project that pursues the advancement of Gipuzkoa as a Basque area of progress and the well-being of its citizens”.
Olano has been deputy general in three parliaments, but not consecutively. He was leader of the opposition in Gipuzkoa for four years.
De jeltzale will face Maddalen Iriarte (EH Bildu), José Ignacio Asensio (PSE-EE) and Mikel Lezama (PP) for the time being in the battle for the head of the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council.
