Expert: Clear victory – whoever won the final confrontation on ORF

Date:

Behind the parties’ top candidates lies a veritable marathon of TV duels and elephant rounds. The final confrontation between all party leaders took place at ORF on Thursday evening. Together with the political scientist Kathrin Stainer-Hämmerle, the “Krone” analyzed the last performances of the leaders.

No fewer than 1.125 million people did not miss the last so-called elephant round before the elections on ORF 2 on Thursday evening. The party leaders spoke to each other and to each other one last time. “As we saw with the example of US President Joe Biden, you can lose elections, offices and votes in such duels. “But that did not happen on Thursday evening,” explains political scientist Kathrin Stainer-Hämmerle.

However, some candidates performed better than others.

Pink power woman convinced
NEOS boss Beate Meinl-Reisinger gave the expert the best score. “She was friendly, positive and more lively than her competitors. She convinced with her ability to articulate and showed that economics was her subject,” says Stainer-Hämmerle. On the other hand, she didn’t play or even use the “woman card” at all.

Chancellor Karl Nehammer also fell victim to his positioning in the faction on Thursday. “The Chancellor sometimes seemed stoic, looked at no one and turned to no one,” the expert analyzes. At the same time he tried to appear sovereign and support the state.

Babler says little, Kickl thinks
According to the expert, SPÖ leader Andreas Babler was not convincing. “He talks a lot, but says little. As Doris Bures wrote in her letter, he often gets lost in details. “There is no grand story,” says Stainer-Hämmerle.

However, FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl noted “that he is starting to think about the new poll figures.” The flood took the podium away from Kickl and opened new opportunities for Nehammer. On Thursday evening, the FPÖ leader seemed to provide less state support than in other matches, but again “sharper in tone”.

And Green Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler? He sometimes seemed absent, but was on fire again when it came to green topics. The Green Party leader’s “faltering” performance had little impact on voters’ decision. “Werner Kogler already knows the Greens. You know what he stands for. He is a brand!”
