Born in Chelmsford, Eales, 52, moved to Newcastle in July 2022 from Atlanta United (MLS) club, where he served as president and chief executive since the team’s founding in 2014.

“However, now is clearly the right time to make this decision for me to prioritize my health and that of my family. In the short term, it will be business as usual in terms of managing the day-to-day operations of the club, and I will give my full support to a transition period that will allow the board to carefully assess and appoint my successor. I am proud of what we have achieved together and I am excited to see what the future holds for everyone as the club moves towards a future of sustained success“.
Eales will continue to lead the club’s executive team until a replacement is named, according to Newcastle.
