In the HSHS St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wisconsin, an unusual baby boom causes a stir: 14 nurses from the women and the children’s center expect young people this year – and this in the department in which they take care of every day.
The news published the hospital in line with Mother’s Day and the National Week of the Nurses. For many of the expectant mothers it is the first child – for others the fifth. So also at Ashlyn Short, who has been working in the birth center since 2015 and expects her fifth child in August. For her and her colleagues, the discovery was that they are pregnant together “a little shock,” she says laughing.
Women had a strong bond with each other
“This is an incredibly full-circle moment for many of our nurses,” says Amy Bardon, head of the center, in a press release. “They are already experts when it comes to babies – but their own experiences will deepen this knowledge.”
The women had already built strong ties before birth, many of them were also good friends private.
Sisters will take care of each other
A special aspect: the expectant mothers are also provided by colleagues during pregnancy – and when birth is approaching, friends and colleagues ensure the support in the delivery room. “This narrow connection creates a sense of safety and trust,” says Bardon.
The families of the nurses also participate. Ashlyn Shorts four children – in two to nine years – with enthusiasm, the media reports about their mother are enthusiastic.
