Somewhat frothy cheering filled the room when the first projection flashed over the XXL television in the “Metropol” shortly after 5 p.m. The mood at the Green Party’s election party in the venerable cultural center in Vienna’s 17th district was good, but certainly not euphoric given the vote loss.
The past five years of the coalition have been nerve-wracking and many supporters are happy that a new chapter is now beginning. In the “Metropol” the future was discussed through spring rolls, vegetarian “meatballs” and mini wraps.
“A good basis to get up and continue”
Minister of Social Affairs and Health Johannes Rauch was satisfied in the “Krone” interview: “The election result is a good basis to get up and move forward. It’s a mission to fight. We have functioned in recent weeks in a way that I have never experienced in more than thirty years.’ Now it’s a matter of ‘forming a stable government – and that will be difficult enough.’ Rauch: “Kickl will not be able to form a government. So discussions will take place with all parties, including us.”
The minister sees no serious mistakes in the Green election campaign: “All governments in Europe have had to work under the most difficult circumstances in recent years. This was evident from the election results.”
Rauch doesn’t think about giving up, even though we “may have expected a little more.” They will not allow ‘the right to take over the country’.
