The agreement represents the withdrawal of the “most harmful” aspects of the standard. For example, rubber balls will be banned, the discretion of disrespect for authority will end, disobedience will become a petty crime, and border returns will be reformed.
EH Bildu has, after “long and discreet negotiations” with the Spanish government, reached agreement on the withdrawal of the Organic Law for the Protection of Citizens’ Security, better known as “Gag law“, as announced at a press conference by the parliamentary spokesperson of the Abertzale coalition, Mertxe Aizpurua, and the deputy Jon Inarritu.
The agreement, which has already been communicated to the rest of the groups that supported the reform of the controversial PP law, means that it will “finally put an end to” the “most harmful aspects” of the law: the use of rubber ballsthe sanctions imposed on the disrespect to authority and disobedienceas well as immediate return at the border.
