All research institutes agree with this. Austria’s economic position is currently seriously weakened. Precisely for this reason, the mayor of Vienna even fears a “social collapse” and wants to focus on labor market policy. The SPÖ even has a real expert in its ranks for this.
As the “Krone” reported, the city of Vienna must make improvements in the area of minimum income. The budget of 900 million euros estimated for this year will probably not be sufficient; additional costs of around 215 million euros will probably be necessary. In addition, the meager budget figures, the expected economic downturn and rising unemployment apparently also increasingly raise concerns at city hall.
“Austria as a business location has been greatly weakened. Moreover, the black-green federal government leaves behind a budget that is in urgent need of restructuring. I fear a social lockdown,” explains Mayor Michael Ludwig because of the recession the following year. Approaches that will probably serve as a guideline for the SPÖ in the exploratory negotiations.
Labor market expert in the red ranks
As the “Krone” has revealed, a first secret summit will take place today. At the same time, staff planning for ministerial positions is being worked on within the parties. Particularly sought after: experts for business and the labor market. With Sven Hergovich, the regional leader of the SPÖ in Lower Austria, they even have one in their own ranks.
