In his new book ‘War’, American journalist Bob Woodward writes that Donald Trump maintained close contact with Russian leader Vladimir Putin even after his time as American president. Trump is also said to have sent corona tests to Moscow at the beginning of the pandemic – even though there was a shortage in the US itself. The Kremlin has already responded, at least partially confirming Woodward’s information.
Test kits were even shipped from the US. But it was just international cooperation in the midst of a pandemic, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday. The first tests worked poorly. At the beginning of the pandemic, there wasn’t enough equipment. Russia sent a shipment of ventilators to the US, “they sent us these tests,” the Kremlin spokesman continued.
But Peskov dismissed Woodward’s statements about Putin’s repeated conversations with Trump after he left the White House in 2021. “As far as the phone calls are concerned, that is not true, that did not happen,” the Kremlin spokesman emphasized.
Putin advised Trump: “Don’t tell anyone”
About the corona tests, Woodward writes that Putin accepted them, but Trump advised to keep the delivery secret. “I don’t want you to tell anyone, because then people will be angry with you, and not with me,” Putin said, according to the book, to Trump, who is running again for the Republicans in the next US presidential election on November 5 .
