The Provincial Court of Valencia has sentenced the former minister and former president of the Generalitat Valenciana to prison and imposed fines of 25 million euros, as well as banning him from work and public office for 17 years.
The former minister of the PP and former president of the Generalitat Valenciana Eduardo Zaplana has been sentenced to prison terms of a total of 10 years and 5 months for bribery, money laundering, embezzlement and deception in the privatization of the ITV and the award of the Wind Plan of the Valencian Community.
They also imposed fines of more than 25 million euros and a prison sentence of 17 years and 10 months of disqualification from work and public office, and another 3 from practicing his profession.
The court acquits him of forming a criminal group, but orders the confiscation of various assets and amounts seized during the investigation of the case.
The Chamber also sentenced five other defendants, including businessmen Vicente and José Cotino, to prison terms of one year, three months and seven and a half years for deception, bribery, forgery and money laundering.
The eight remaining defendants in the so-called ‘Erial’ case, including the former president of the Generalitat José Luis Olivas, were acquitted after the Public Prosecutor’s Office withdrew the charges against three of them or because they did not appreciate evidence that a conviction, as reported by the Supreme Court of the Valencian Community (TSJCV).
The ruling of the Fourth Department of the Provincial Court of Valencia, after the trial heard last May for the conviction, consists of 364 pages, is not final and can be appealed in cassation to the Supreme Court.
