Date:

Asked about the future new political status, EH General Coordinator Bildu supported a bilateral process agreed with the state.

The general coordinator of EH Bildu, Arnaldo Otegihas assured that EH Bildu’s proposal for a global budget agreement for the Basque government and the three provincial councils “will stick”, and will raise it again next year. As he explained, “Maybe not this year, but it will come out eventually.” The sovereigntist coalition advocates adding all financial resources from Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa, always respecting the institutional architecture, and then deciding how the money will be invested.

In an interview for the program “Boulevard” on Radio Euskadi, Otegi has defended that the model of relations with the state must be changed, and in this sense EH Bildu is committed to a bilateral process agreed with the state.

With reference to new political statusOtegi understands that, first of all, there must be a major country agreement between nationalists (PNV, EH Bildu), and not just nationalists (PSE-EE and confederal left) in the Basque parliament, and negotiate it with the Spanish State. Moreover, the country has chosen to hold a referendum at the beginning, after agreeing to it in the Basque parliament, and another at the end of the process, when the text returns from Madrid.

Likewise, Otegi believes it is necessary recognize the Basque Country and then define what the are competencies of the three territories (Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa) and which of the state.

Otegi also referred to the controversy over the legal reform of sentencing prisoners of ETA and has stated that “no one’s sentence will be reduced”. Moreover, he believes that “it is an investment in the future” for coexistence. “Is the alternative that there will still be prisoners in 2050? I don’t know what kind of favor that means for living together,” he said.

Finally, Otegi believes that the ‘iron alliance’ between the PNV and the PSE no longer has a future. Moreover, he has assured that the alliance policy It will change so that ‘everyone wins’ and so that someone doesn’t always lose.
