After Donald Trump used a McDonald’s branch in Pennsylvania this weekend for a somewhat bizarre campaign appearance, the fast food giant has now responded. A message to all employees emphasizes that Trump’s visit does not constitute an election recommendation for the Republican candidate.
“When we learned of the former president’s request, we approached the matter in the spirit of one of our core values: we open our doors to everyone,” the company said.
“McDonald’s does not endorse candidates for elected office, including in this race for the next president. We are not red or blue – we are golden.”
McDonald’s invites Harris and Walz
The Chicago burger giant also said franchisees have also invited Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, and her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz, to their restaurants, according to the report. Harris has not yet responded.
Trump’s action in Pennsylvania was also a swipe at Harris, who had said earlier during the campaign that she worked at the fast-food chain in the summer of 1983 while she was in college. Trump continuously claimed for weeks that Harris made it up, but he has no evidence for that. The New York Times said it spoke to a childhood friend of Harris’ who recalled the current US vice president working at the chain.
“I’ve wanted to do this all my life. And now I do it,” the 78-year-old said before visiting a branch in Feasterville-Trevose. Upon arrival, Trump took off his jacket and put on an apron.
He then went into the kitchen and was shown the deep fryer, fried potato strips and finally filled a cardboard bowl with fries. He then stood in front of the window of the restaurant’s drive-through, placed an order and had his picture taken.
