Karoline Edtstadler announced her withdrawal from top politics in Vienna on Saturday. The People’s Party already supported state Vice President Stefan Schnöll on Sunday as the future black party leader and top candidate.
Minister Edtstadler succeeds Wilfried Haslauer as governor of the state! This rumor has been going around in Salzburg for quite some time. After Edtstadler’s withdrawal from federal politics in Vienna, Haslauer, besides the usual farewell praise, does not allow any speculation. “The medium-term roadmap of the Salzburg People’s Party remains unchanged and clear: Stefan Schnöll must succeed Haslauer as chairman and top candidate during this legislature,” the state party said on Sunday. Haslauer slams the door on Edtstadler.
The transfer date is still open
“For me that is motivation. Unity in the party is important,” says Schnöll. There could be another reason why the party is demonstratively supporting the crown prince and state vice president. If the referendum on the mobility solution in Salzburg turns out negatively, it will also damage Schnöll’s image. After all, it is one of the most important projects of his political career. It is still unclear exactly when the transfer at the top of the state will take place. Fall 2025 is considered likely. Then the black-blue state government would have completed half of its legislative period.
As reported, Edtstadler wants to set up a law firm in Salzburg and thus return to her day job.
