It all started with a July 21, 2016 strategy paper on the “strategic basis and positioning” of a new ÖVP movement with Sebastian Kurz at the helm. This served as the basis for the so-called Ballhausplatz project and thus also for the then strong rise of the ÖVP foreign minister. Now this exciting domestic political episode in Austria comes to the cinema.
Kurt Langbein’s documentary is one of 15 projects co-financed by the ORF with a total of 3.2 million euros. The film is about “how a group of young men managed to take over the government and lead it to the brink of democracy,” according to the Austrian Film Institute’s website. Central questions of the documentary: What drove the “Praetorians” and why almost the whole country was at their feet. Why the European public marveled and admired this.
Also Bruno Kreisky in the picture
It is not yet known when the film will be shown in cinemas. Among the projects that have recently become known is another political film: Harald Sicherheititz traces the career of the legendary SPÖ politician in “Bruno – Der Junge Kreisky”.
