Campaign expert Yussi Pick predicted Donald Trump’s triumph before his triumph. Early in the counting process it became clear that Trump did better this time than in 2020, while Kamala Harris would have done worse than Joe Biden at the time. Trump now “faces absolute power” before his second term.
According to Pick, further investigation is needed as to why Trump was able to mobilize more voters than Harris. The campaign themes and the personalities of the candidates were crucial.
Harris faced significant disadvantages as a woman due to the entrenched sexism in the US. With the message that “a woman cannot be trusted to hold the presidency,” Trump has likely won over young men in particular – similar to his victory over Hillary Clinton in 2016.
The economic situation also plays an important role. Even if this is stable, people will feel the price increase, for which they can blame Harris as acting vice president. Trump, who was supported by technology billionaire Elon Musk, was also assigned more economic expertise in investigations.
Many changes are expected
In addition to the presidency, Republicans could also claim a majority in the Senate. If they retain the majority in the House of Representatives, Trump could wield “absolute power” during his second term, Pick said.
He assumes that Trump will implement sweeping changes, such as stricter abortion laws and further restructuring of the legal system, to strengthen radical conservative positions.
“Trumpism” was reinforced
The election victory also shows that the Republican Party is increasingly dominated by personalities like Trump. Unlike his first term, Pick expects that Trump will now govern without critical voices around him. This could strengthen “Trumpism” even after his term.
Democrats at a crossroads?
Pick now sees an exciting development for the Democrats. Harris has lost her leadership due to the election defeat, which could mean her political end. Pick sees 54-year-old Hakeem Jeffries, party leader in the House of Representatives, as a possible new party leader.
