US Vice President Kamala Harris has publicly admitted her defeat in the US presidential election. “We have to accept the outcome of this election,” the 60-year-old said during an appearance for supporters in the capital Washington – before speaking about her personal future.
“The outcome of this election is not what we wanted, not what we fought for, not what we voted for,” Harris said Wednesday during an appearance at Howard University in Washington.
However, your personal struggle for democracy and the rule of law will continue. She suggested she wanted to stay at the top of the party. She spoke to Trump on the phone and agreed to an orderly transition of power. Harris also said that a president should be there for all Americans.
Harris called on her supporters not to despair or lose heart. ‘Don’t be desperate. This is not the time to sit back. It’s time to roll up our sleeves.” Harris said, “I know a lot of people feel like we’re entering a dark time.” But only in the darkness can stars be seen. It’s now up to America to reach the sky with to fill stars.
On election night, the 60-year-old vice president experienced a debacle. The 78-year-old former President Trump unexpectedly achieved a clear victory. Long before the final votes were counted, it was clear that the Republican would move back to the White House in January.
Harris originally wanted to appear before her supporters at an election party on the grounds of Howard University on election night. However, she canceled this after it became clear that Republican Donald Trump could have triumphed in crucial states.
Citing a representative of the President’s Office, it was also said that US President Joe Biden would also speak to Trump on the phone and publicly comment on the election results.
The AP news agency and several broadcasters, including Fox News, CNN and NBC, had previously unanimously reported that Trump won more than 270 electors when votes were counted, giving him an unassailable lead over Harris. Trump’s Republicans also won the Senate majority in the parallel congressional elections.
Trump thus faces the prospect of being able to govern without effective resistance from the opposition – if his party can also defend control of the House of Representatives.
