250,000 people from the city, Flachgau and Tennengau were allowed to vote on the ‘Salzburg mobility solution’ on Sunday in the central area around the capital. The centerpiece is the S-Link, the partially underground extension of the local railway line. Voter turnout at the election was unexpectedly high – here are the survey results…
“Should the State of Salzburg ensure that, in the interest of reducing traffic, the extension of the local rail line to Hallein (S-Link) is implemented as part of a mobility solution that also includes a Stiegl and a trade fair/airport rail line ? This question was asked today by approximately 250,000 residents of Salzburg. These are all eligible voters in the three districts of Stadt, Flachgau and Tennengau. There were a total of 155 polling stations, the last of which closed at 4 p.m.
Interest in the survey was surprisingly high and there were queues outside many polling stations.
All communities have now been counted: 52.6 percent of respondents in all three districts are against the S-Link, 47.4 percent are in favor of it. In concrete terms: the majority in Flachgau is in favor of the mobility solution, while in Tennengau and the city the majority is against it.
A clear “no” in the city of Salzburg
Especially in the city of Salzburg – unlike many other communities – it is a clear case. 60.03 percent of Salzburg residents voted ‘no’. However, the votes of the postal voters are still missing.
Profiteers voted ‘yes’
The S-Link received very high approval rates, sometimes over 70 percent, in the communities already on the existing local rail line. Their citizens would be the biggest beneficiaries of an extension. Another photo where the future route should have run. At Anif and Hallein, more than 60 percent are against the project.
