A Catholic priest in Singapore has been the victim of a knife attack. As the Archdiocese of Singapore announced on Saturday, the priest was attacked by a man with a pocket knife during a children’s service, wounding him several times.
Christopher Lee (57) is now in hospital and his condition is stable, Kathpress reports.
Singapore Archbishop William Goh shared a video on Facebook on Sunday showing the injured priest in a wheelchair but fully conscious at the clinic.
Probably a lone perpetrator
“Community members disarmed the 37-year-old suspect during the incident, who was subsequently arrested, police announced on Facebook. The officers further explained, “According to preliminary investigation, it is believed the man acted alone.”
So the man is Sinhala, the largest ethnic group in Sri Lanka, and gave immigration authorities his religious belief as Christianity. According to the police, he had previously been arrested for assault and drug offenses. The authorities are currently ruling out a terrorist background.
