Vorarlberg Governor Markus Wallner was sworn in by Chancellor Karl Nehammer (both ÖVP) in the Hall of Mirrors of the Hofburg on Monday afternoon. Nehammer represented Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen, who is currently recovering from intervertebral disc surgery.
In a short, personal speech, the Chancellor praised the responsibility and honesty that Wallner showed as a politician. Wallner will lead a black-blue coalition in Vorarlberg in the future.
He has been in office since 2011, making him the state’s longest-serving governor. Last week, Wallner was re-elected as head of government of Vorarlberg with 26 out of 36 votes.
In times of uncertainty, people would look for guidance that politicians like Wallner would provide, Nehammer said. Wallner’s heart beats for Vorarlberg. The Chancellor also emphasized the efforts of his family, who accompanied the Governor to the inauguration.
Van der Bellen is now on the road to recovery, said Nehammer, who wished the federal president “all the best”.
