The presidential meeting met for the first time on Thursday in parliament under the leadership of Walter Rosenkranz (FPÖ). The new President of the National Council was then also the subject of the deliberations…
Because, as club president Sigrid Maurer emphasized before the meeting, the Greens want a change in the law according to which the head of parliament is no longer automatically chairman of the National Fund for Victims of National Socialism.
Maurer justified this by saying that the rosary was unsuitable for this function and that the Israelite religious community also saw it that way. The Greens’ bill wants the main committee to also be able to select the other members of the board of directors to manage the fund.
Rosenkranz himself told the president that anyone was free to submit applications. The president did not say what he thought about it. The proposal is now on the table.
Ukraine is also on the agenda
Rosenkranz also declined to show his hand in a second issue scheduled for Thursday. The Ukrainian embassy has requested that Parliament be illuminated in the national colors of yellow and blue on the thousandth day of the Russian attack. The FPÖ is not considered a strong supporter of Ukraine and, like the majority of the SPÖ club, was not present for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s video speech in parliament.
