South Korean media: – Ukrainian delegation asks for arms aid

Date:

The South Korean government recently announced that it will not remain silent regarding the deployment of North Korean troops in Russia. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “all options are on the table.” A Ukrainian delegation led by Defense Minister Rustem Umyerov is currently in South Korea to request arms assistance for the war against Russia.

The delegation met with South Korean National Security Advisor Shin Won Sik to exchange views on the conflict in Ukraine, the DongA Ilbo newspaper reported. The South China Morning Post also previously reported on the visit, citing people familiar with the matter. Therefore, further meetings are planned for Wednesday. The South Korean Ministry of Defense has not yet responded to the reports.

North Korea and Russia have had a joint military agreement since the summer. According to Western sources, around 10,000 North Korean forces have already been sent to war against Ukraine. The two governments did not deny the reports. Russian President Putin does not deny the presence of North Korean soldiers in his own country and recently pointed out that Ukraine is also dependent on personnel from NATO countries. Internationally isolated North Korea, led by dictatorial ruler Kim, has long supplied Russia with missiles and artillery shells.

New Russian missile: NATO promises aid to Ukraine
Speaking of NATO, representatives of the 32 member states exchanged information about a new Russian medium-range missile during an unscheduled meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council. According to information from alliance circles, the discussions at ambassadorial level focused, among other things, on what defense options were available against the weapon. In particular, American missile defense systems of the Patriot and THAAD types are discussed. Ukraine does not yet have the latter. An official statement said: The use of the new weapon will not change the course of the conflict nor deter NATO allies from continuing to support Ukraine.

The Russian armed forces deployed the experimental medium-range missile ‘Oreshnik’ for the first time on Thursday in an attack on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro. Russia claims they fly at hypersonic speeds and cannot be intercepted. In any case, experts doubt the second point. However, it is believed that in theory the missile could also be equipped with nuclear explosives.
