Some cabinet members of future US president Donald Trump have been threatened with bomb attacks. Some of them were also targeted by so-called “swatting,” Trump’s spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said on Wednesday. An emergency situation is simulated.
This can lead to special police units being called because people are said to be in mortal danger. The name is an allusion to the special units of the American police, abbreviated SWAT (Special Weapons And Tactics). The spokeswoman said the attacks were threatened on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. Security forces responded immediately to ensure the protection of those affected.
The spokeswoman initially did not want to say who the threatened attacks were aimed at. They are said to have targeted designated high-level employees of the Trump administration and some select cabinet members. According to Republican Representative Elise Stefanik, who is about to become ambassador to the United Nations, there was a bomb threat against her home in upstate New York. She, her husband and their three-year-old son were on their way home when they were informed about this.
The FBI said it was investigating “numerous” bomb threats and false emergency calls. “We take all potential threats seriously and, as always, encourage the public to immediately report anything they believe is suspicious to law enforcement.”
“With President Trump as a role model, dangerous acts of intimidation and violence will not deter us,” his spokeswoman said. He initially did not comment on the incidents. The US president-elect was wounded in the ear in an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania last July. The husband of Democratic politician Nancy Pelosi was attacked with a hammer shortly before the 2022 US congressional elections.
