The budget speech for 2025 will be presented in the Burgenland state parliament on Friday. State Governor Hans Peter Doskozil will be represented by State Councilor for Economic Affairs Leonhard Schneemann. Yet Doskozil does not cut back on criticism of the federal government.
After his eighth laryngeal operation and a mild case of pneumonia, it is clear that State Governor Hans Peter Doskozil will be represented by State Councilor Leonhard Schneemann at the budget speech in the state parliament on Friday. Although public appearances still have to wait, he has been working intensively on projects, Doskozil said in a Facebook post. The focus was on the 2025 state budget, which will be decided in mid-December. According to Doskozil, it is one of the most stable budgets of all the states and follows three aspects: investments in healthcare, energy independence and the fight against inflation.
On the sidelines of the budget parliament, Doskozil is once again raising eyebrows with criticism of the federal government. “Burgenland must focus more than ever on independent solutions. This has become apparent in the fight against inflation, rising energy costs and in relation to migration,” he refers to the heat price ceiling, the housing cost ceiling and the upper limit for asylum seekers.
Different swipe gestures
In the debate about municipal finances, the state governor issues a damning report to the federal government. “It was the current federal government that delivered one of the highest inflation rates in Europe and watched idly as costs in all areas skyrocketed and the economy fell into recession. Both have led to an increase in expenditure for municipalities, while their income has decreased.” Burgenland, on the other hand, has taken action, says Doskozil, referring to the special financing package for municipalities of 25 million euros and the Municipal Fund Act.
He also does not shy away from criticizing the Burgenland ÖVP by lashing out about the failed garbage association deal. “If all negotiating partners had accepted the offer of a waste association, individual communities would not be in such a difficult situation now,” he criticized, emphasizing that he was ready for a new attempt.
