The right-wing populist AfD wants to massively restrict the right to abortion in Germany. This is evident from the draft election program that the party published on Friday (see video above). She also wants Germany to leave the euro and the EU.
“If the interests are carefully weighed, abortion must remain the absolute exception,” the draft says. This means that abortions should only be allowed after rape or in cases where the mother’s health is at risk. Current practice “does not adequately protect children’s right to life, nor can it be assumed that pregnant women are adequately informed about the serious consequences of abortion and about offers of assistance.”
“Inform about the status of development”
According to the current legal situation, counseling in case of pregnancy conflicts in Germany is a prerequisite for an abortion without punishment. There is also a period of twelve weeks. According to the AfD’s idea, drastic measures should be taken in consultation. “During pregnancy conflict therapy, mothers should be shown ultrasound images of the child, so that they know clearly which stage of development the child is in,” the draft states.
Further content of the presented election manifesto is an end to economic sanctions against Russia, a repair and commissioning of the Nord Stream pipelines, as well as the departure from the EU and the reintroduction of our own national currency. “We consider Germany’s departure from the European Union and the creation of a new European community to be necessary,” the 85-page article says. In recent years, the EU has been working towards a ‘super state of the planned economy’.
Exiting is not possible without further ado
Instead, the AfD advocates a looser confederation of states, an “economic and interest community.” A referendum must take place before any corresponding change is made. In principle, leaving the EU is not simply possible. Two-thirds of the members of the Bundesrat and the Bundestag would have to vote in favor of the change in the law. Such majorities are hardly feasible.
There is also demand for an exit from the Paris Climate Agreement, which aims to reduce greenhouse gases. The German party said man-made climate change was “politically constructed”. Popular topics such as ‘remigration’ and conscription have not yet been included in the draft. Disagreements exist within the Alternative for Germany.
The demands will be discussed and voted on at a party conference on January 11 and 12 in Saxony. Some things can still change.
