Nazi song at funeral – Rosenkranz allegedly withheld requests

Date:

Wanting to investigate the reactivation, the Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office has called for the immunity of three FPÖ politicians to be lifted. It has now become known that Walter Rosenkranz, President of the National Council, allegedly postponed the corresponding request for ten days…

According to a report in the “Standard,” Rosenkranz received mail from the Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office on November 20. However, the parties only learned of this through the media. As reported, this concerns the FPÖ mandates Harald Stefan, Martin Graf and club director Norbert Nemeth. They took part in a funeral during which a song used by the Schutzstaffel SS was sung.

The FPÖ justified itself by saying that it was a version from 1814 and that this was the express wish of the deceased – a fraternity member.

Greens: “Do not play the role of party soldier”
After the news that Rosenkranz had withheld the post, the ÖVP, SPÖ and the Greens demanded an explanation. For example, the ÖVP’s constitutional spokesman, Wolfgang Gerstl, demanded that the matter be clarified immediately. Otherwise, one would be “forced to assume that Rosenkranz completely failed in his duties or deliberately violated procedural rules.”

Rosenkranz probably did not understand “that he must fulfill his role uninfluenced and not as a party soldier,” said Green Party club leader Sigrid Maurer.

The National Council’s rules of procedure actually provide that such requests must be referred to the Immunity Committee “immediately upon receipt.” A spokesperson for the chairman of the National Council said this also happened. The parliamentary management stated that the letter was only received at the National Council office last Friday.
