In addition to eleven sessions of the state parliament, the Carinthian state parliament also addressed the question of how democratic consciousness could be restored to its former glory. And the House doesn’t just rely on modern technology…
In recent years, not only domestic politicians from all parties have been caught in the crossfire, but also democracy itself. “The events of recent years have led to divisions in society,” explains state parliament president Reinhart Rohr. Although the eleven state parliament sessions in 2024 were very popular, there is still much to be done.
Own exhibition and a turbulent year
For this reason, the ‘Gateway to Democracy’ exhibition is currently being worked on in the country house. “We want to create a connection between different groups of people,” Rohr emphasizes. The project is being funded from the Greens’ unspent club funds.
While preparations for the democracy-promoting exhibition are in full swing, Rohr looks back on an eventful year in the Carinthian state parliament. Approximately 203 resolutions were adopted in the House of Representatives in eleven meetings. “There were also numerous laws. Particularly noteworthy is the new rental allowance, which will come into effect in January 2025.”
But the suspension of the director of the state parliament Robert Weiß also determined the work in the Carinthian state parliament – an absolute novelty in the history of Carinthia.
2025 – a year of saving
During the last state parliament session in December, the main course for the coming year was set. And the motto is: save. “We also set an example. The parties in the state parliament give up ten percent of their club financing,” said Rohr.
It is not just saving that will keep the House busy for a long time. The referendum on wind turbines in the mountains of Carinthia also casts its shadow. “We will see what comes of it and then make further decisions,” says the chairman of the State Parliament, who is in favor of wind energy.
In the coming year, artificial intelligence will also find its way into the state parliament. “This is to generate our protocols for the state parliament.” The implementation of the project is scheduled for mid-2025.
