The Citizens’ Network urges the National Court to speed up the application of the legal reform that recognizes sentences served abroad for ETA prisoners, arguing that “enough damage” has already been done and denounces the fact that too many sentences are being served.
The Sare Citizens’ Network has asked the National Court to speed up the release following the reform that ratifies sentences served in other countries. According to spokesperson Joseba Azkarraga, the procedure must be accelerated because “the prisoners are forced to serve more sentences than those imposed by the courts.”
During the presentation of his annual demonstration, scheduled for Saturday the 11th in Bilbao under the motto “Behin betiko” (once and for all), Sare emphasized that the release of some of the 52 prisoners affected by this reform is in the hands belongs to the National Court.
Azkarraga has stressed that more than seven prisoners could be released soon and described the situation as an “unresolved issue” related to human rights.
The march will include figures such as Rosa Rodero, widow of the Ertzaintza sergeant killed by ETA, and Ane Muguruza, daughter of the murdered Herri Batasuna deputy. Politicians from EH Bildu, Junts, ERC and trade unions such as ELA and LAB will also participate. Sare has called for “an end to decades of suffering” with peace based on justice and respect for all victims.
