Lena Schilling and Heinz-Christian Strache duel for the first time on krone.tv: The Green EU parliamentarian and the former FPÖ leader discuss domestic policy issues during their premiere – in addition to the elections in Burgenland and Vienna, also the blue-black austerity package – and also look at Donald Trump’s second term.
In domestic politics, it will be exciting to see who Burgenlands SPÖ leader Hans Peter Doskozil will join in government next. Strache said: “From a human level, I know that Hans Peter Doskozil and Norbert Hofer understand each other – and also from a technical expertise point of view. It would certainly be an interesting announcement if Hans Peter Doskozil takes down this firewall, which has already been demolished everywhere, in Burgenland and uses red-blue as an opportunity.”
Lena Schilling sees things very differently: “You have to think very carefully whether you want to do politics with such a person (Herbert Kickl, editor’s note). From my perspective, this firewall is something we need to create perspectives for people in Austria.”
“Trump is unpredictable”
A heated debate arose on the topic of Donald Trump. Lena Schilling is concerned about his second term. “Trump is unpredictable. He wants to interfere in European politics.” Their problem is also that billionaires buy opinions or entire platforms and interfere in election campaigns. “The election campaign was more or less bought.”
That was not a problem when “the red carpet was rolled out for the global left on the subject of migration and corona policy,” Strache answers. But if someone else comes along and opposes the censorship on Twitter, there will be a huge outcry. Strache continued, “I believe Trump can truly bring about peace in the war between Russia and Ukraine and in the Middle East. “That will be a great achievement,” Strache said. Lena Schilling: “I think that’s what we all want. Especially the people in Ukraine.”
In the krone.tv format “The Duel”, public figures discuss current national and international crises every week.
