Government and opposition are locked in a clash of accusations, while the partners of the executive branch are asking to soon adopt a new decree with social and economic measures, such as the increase of pensions and the extension of transport aid.

For his part, the Chairman of the Popular Party and Leader of the Opposition, Alberto Nuñez Feijoohas accused the government of using pensioners as “hostages” and “human shields” and trying to “mislead” into holding the PP responsible for the fall of the decree. “The PP’s position is well known: ‘yes to increasing pensions, no to giving away privileges and property to its nationalist allies; yes to the bonus for public transport, no to the increase in electricity and food through VAT and yes to Valencia, no to the occupancy of housing,” he declared, naming some of the measures.

The general secretary of Junts, Jordi Turulhas gone further by announcing that his party will present a proposal for the revaluation of pensions and support for public transport if the government does not adopt a new decree containing these measures “in the coming hours”.

Government partners are also pushing to relax the rejected measures.
