For the first time since the fall of Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad, a senior Russian delegation has traveled to Damascus. The Kremlin had supported Al-Assad militarily in the civil war and recorded the politician after the unrest in Russia.
Russia was at war in 2015. After taking power through the Islamic militia HTS, the Kremlin is now interested in maintaining his military bases in Syria. The naval base in Tartus and the Air Force Base in Hmeimin are the only military outpost in Russia outside the former Soviet Union. Vice -Minister of Foreign Affairs Mikhail Bogdanow and Alexander Lawrentjew, representative of Syria of President Vladimir Putin, belong to the delegation that has now arrived.
The HTS milit, which is now in power in Syria, classifies Russia as a “terrorist organization”. The group came from the Al-Nusra Front, the Syrian branch of the Al Qaida Terror Network. For some time, however, it has made a moderate tone. HR leader and the new Syrian ruler Ahmed Al-Sharaa spoke in a TV interview with “Deep strategic interests between Russia and Syria” in December. “All Syrian weapons come from Russia and many energy facilities are managed by Russian experts,” he said.
Assad’s fall “No defeat”
Russian President Vladimir Putin said in mid -December that the fall of Assad was “no defeat”. The Russian goals have been achieved that Syria would not be “terrorist enclave”. As reported, Fighter, led by the HTS militia, conquered Damascus in early December and overshaden Assad.
