Date:

According to eyewitnesses, the Rebel Militia M23 expands its sphere of influence in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The hunters now control various parts of the provincial capital Goma, including the airport. In a speech for the nation, Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi has now called on the population for resistance.

“The defense of home is holy,” the head of state in his television speech on Wednesday evening sounded. The Miliz M23 hunter is an “insult to our history,” said Tshisekedi. The president promised an energetic reaction to expel the M23 from Goma and called on young Congolese to join the army.

He also promised a humanitarian emergency plan. Tshisekedi had been silent for days for the processes in the raw material east of the country. While the rebels of the M23 were set up at Goma last week, he was at the World Economic Forum in Davos in Switzerland. Heavy battles in the city followed the M23 of the M23 after Goma on Monday.

Government troops disarm
On Wednesday, parts of the government forces were disarmed by the M23, eyewitnesses reported that the rebels took over control in different parts of the city. However, there is still isolated resistance in the city. The government forces have not yet officially left Goma.

In his speech, Tshisekedi renewed accusations to the neighboring country of Rwanda and referred to the presence of thousands of Rwandic soldiers on Congolese soil. The strategically important city of Goma is on the border with Rwanda. The M23 hunters are “Marionettes from Kigali,” said Tshisekedi. Kigali, however, denies to support the rebels. The Congolese president also criticized the international community and accused her of her passivity.

East African States require immediate fire brigade
On Wednesday, the heads of the East African community of EAC came together to form a virtual top in this context. In their last statement they called on the parties for the conflict for an immediate fire brigade and the peaceful solution for the conflict. The urgent call to the Congolese government went directly to deal with the parties in the conflict, including the M23. Tshisekedi had not accepted the invitation for the top, in contrast to Rwandian President Paul Kagame.
