The three parliamentary groups continue to emphasize that “unacceptable statements of understanding and support for the actions carried out have been made by the Spanish president, describing the situation as “well resolved” by the Spanish and Moroccan security forces”.

So in the statement eight points, the groups express their “dismay and strong condemnation” at the events that took place on the Melilla border, “showing all our solidarity with the families of the people of sub-Saharan Africa killed or injured by the brutal police action .” In addition, they demand an “immediate and independent investigation to clarify the facts, clarify responsibilities and determine remedial measures for the victims”, as well as “the recovery, identification and repatriation to their country of origin of the bodies of the deceased , with respect for the wishes of the families.

PNV, EH Bildu and Elkarrekin Podemos simultaneously express their most outspoken rejection “of the current European and Spanish policies on migration and asylum, which revolve around the militarization and externalization of borders”, and demand “the establishment of legal and secure channels that guarantee the dignity and respect for the human rights of all migrants”.

“We believe”, they say, “that the European Union should have a coherent and common migration policy, and an asylum and protection policy based on respect for human rights.” They also emphasize that, in their view, “the responsibility and management of the migrants arriving at the borders should be common, accountable and supportive among the members of the EU”.

Finally, the emerging groups affirm themselves “in promoting migration policies based on human rights, against xenophobic discourses and authoritarian practices encouraged by far-right ideologies.”
