The educational leave is on the edge! The popular model could soon be history under a possible blue-black coalition. The result: massive uncertainty among employees who are now storming the Chamber of Labor (AK). The questions explode!
The rumors about the possible of the educational leave currently offer hot minds. Many employees who have planned a break for further training for 2025 are restless. Even those who have already concluded contracts with their employers are concerned about their future. The questions of the Chamber of Labor on the subject have increased considerably, Silvia Hofbauer, head of the Ministry of Labor Market and the integration of AK Vienna, confirms.
Those who did not want to start their educational measures until next year are particularly influenced. However, many employees now also want to focus on educational leave – as long as it is still possible.
AK warns: “No binding contracts!”
Hofbauer urgently advises caution: “If you agree for educational leave with the employer, such a reserved clause must be completed. This means that pregnancy leave should only take effect if there is actually an educational allowance.
Moreover, the expert warns: currently no binding contracts with educational providers must be concluded or payments are made in advance. However, if you are already in educational leave, you can breathe in a sigh of relief. In this case Hofbauer gives everything -because it cannot be assumed that active contracts are intervention: “We consider something like this as unconstitutional. If that happened, we would also support people with an appeal procedure.
AMS: No clear figures – Vienna reports 25% more questions!
The Labor Market Service (AMS), which is responsible for education leave, is now that there is data chaos. Nationally there are no uniform number of how many people are currently applying for educational leave. But the increase in Vienna is clearly noticeable: reports that the questions have recently risen by no less than 25 percent!
The public sector bears the costs: in 2024, around 640 million euros flowed into educational leave, including money for further training and partial part -time (see image above). If the measure would remain, the Ministry of Labor and Economic Affairs would expect even higher amounts in the coming years: for 2026 653 million euros are expected for 2027 with 667 million euros.
