The Washington government in Washington has operated the release of an American citizen that has been trapped for years. The 63-year-old Marc Fogel was already welcomed on Tuesday by President Donald Trump in the White House. Trump described the release as part of an “exchange” as a gesture of good will to end the war in Ukraine. He also announced another release for Wednesday.
At the reception in the White House, the fogel was visibly moved in an American flag. He feels like the “happiest person on earth,” he said, who thanked the American president and his team for support for his release. For his part, Trump reported on a meeting with Fogel’s 95-year-old mother during an election campaign event. In addition, he promised her to “get her son out”.
Here the arrival of Marc Fogel is welcomed by the White House:
“Very special person” also before release
Trump described the prisoners dealing with Russia as “very honest, very reasonable” when journalists asked. He also announced that “someone will be released tomorrow”. In the beginning he gave no further details, but added that it was a “very special” person. Russia has not been expressed so far.
Trump had previously said that he now hoped for new relationships with Moscow to end the war in Ukraine. “We were treated very nicely by Russia,” Trump told journalists in the White House. “I hope this is the start of a relationship in which we can end this war.”
Fogel had worked as a teacher at an American school in Moscow. By May 2021, according to the Russian authorities, he enjoyed diplomatic immunity as an employee of the American message in Moscow. In June 2022, he was sentenced to 14 years in prison for drug smuggling after a customs check on the Scheremjewo Marihuana and the Cannabis Oil airport was found in his luggage.
There was also a prisoners exchange under bids
Freelnations by American citizens of Russian prisons could also be obtained from Trump’s predecessor Joe Biden. In August the American journalist Evan Gershkovich and former American soldier Paul Whhelan were released since the end of the Cold War. In exchange, the “Tiergarten murderer” Vadim Krasikow was released, who was convicted in Germany for killing a Georgian born in Chechen in Georgian in the Kleine Zoo in Berlin. In contrast to Biden, this time, with the Middle East Sierderstand Steve Witkoff, a high-ranking American officer went to Moscow to lead the negotiations.
