Upper Austria Governor Thomas Stelzer (ÖVP) calls for a swift end to existing quarantine and isolation regulations. After the Corona summer wave, there will be an autumn wave. “We have to accept that Corona stays. We will not be able to fight and prevent it. That is why we have to live with the fact that the disease is there,” says Stelzer.
The elderly and risk groups must be protected as well as possible by vaccinations and, if it makes sense, additional measures such as wearing face masks can be prescribed and the yardstick is the capacity in the hospitals. “After two years, the disease has changed. We must end the quarantine,” Stelzer calls for a quick end to the isolation.
The number of new infections had risen sharply recently with more than 10,000 cases reported on Saturday – the wave is not expected to level off. On the contrary: the GECKO committee only spoke on Friday that up to 70,000 new infections per day could be possible.
