“Black Cat” attack – Carinthia: data allegedly sold by hackers

Date:

After the state of Carinthia refused to pay the hackers a ransom of five million euros, they now claim to have sold all data to third parties.

IT security expert Sebastian Bicchi posted a screenshot on his Twitter account in which the hackers announced via a publicly accessible page that all data was sold to unknown third parties after non-payment. The data includes Black Cat bills, Covid tests, emails from LH Peter Kaiser and other government officials, and passports.

State spokesman Gerd Kurath confirms that the State Bureau for the Protection of the Constitution has been informed and has launched an investigation. “But the country’s data is safe now – it’s the data from the May hack,” Gerd Kurath reassured. “All persons who may be affected by this data sale have already been contacted and warned by the country. All further steps are up to the investigative authorities.” Nothing is known about the identity or the sale price.
