The share of mayors in Styria is more than ten percent for the first time, but women remain under -represented. What do women experience in the position of the local chef? And how can the office and the family be reconciled?
“Mayor” is on a wooden badge that leans on the desk of Veronika Grill. A small detail that determines the problem well: mayor, which is still largely a profession of men in Styria. While minister is widespread, the proportion of women at community level in Styria weakens at 10.2 percent.
The more Veronika Grill – “Vroni” stands out on her coffee cup. At the age of 32 she is the youngest mayor of Spö in Austria, the youngest woman in this office in Styria and the first in the Aussenerland. Is the area particularly conservative? “We are traditional,” she laughs away.
