Austria’s health system is in a deep crisis. Almost every third Austrian feels abandoned by the system. And: Trust in the Austrian health system suffers, in particular the younger generation, this shows a new study that is available for the “Kroon”.
“One of our biggest problem areas is communication, namely the lack of communication,” says professional Martin Schiefer, professional in purchasing. Young people in particular have no information about the state of the health system and do not know where they can go. “This is not only fatal in health care, but also in democracy,” said Schieper.
The worrying study was dedicated on the occasion of the ‘Health Maker’s Festival that took place on 13 March in collaboration with Slate Lawyers and the communication consultancy Ketchum. Every second fears not to be sufficiently cared for in old age. 68 percent see a considerable difference in quality between private and legal care.
No more trust in conventional medicine
The figures speak for themselves: only 58 percent trust in conventional medicine, for people younger than 30s it is 45 percent less than half. This shows, for example, that young people are afraid of vaccination nowadays. It is a great danger if people lose confidence in medicine and trust the system. One must prevent this, said Julia Bernhardt, initiator of the festival.
Good ideas, but bad implementation
It must be trained and advanced digitization. According to Slate, the 50 million euros referred to in the government program are not sufficient. This HealthHotline 1450 must also be expanded. “This has been around for years, but it is not largely known. There are many good ideas, but they do not come to the population.
Population wants to reform
“We need more courage – especially in healthcare. More than half of the people want brave visionaries who tackle and change the system. We need clear communication and leaders who show courage to promote changes, ”says Manisha Joshi, company director, Healthcare Lead and Dei expert at Ketchum.
