The US government under Donald Trump will release even more employees in the authorities. This time it is around 1000 employees of the renowned NOAA science facility. Spots are also painted on NASA. Experts increase alarm.
According to the American media reports, more than 1,000 jobs must be removed again at the Noaa weather and the Oceanographic Authority Noaa. That is a tenth of all employees. These enormous jobs will have consequences, experts warn.
“They are the first steps to eradicate,” says former Noaa boss Rick Spinrad. “There is no way to make these types of cuts without removing or seriously reducing the areas of responsibility,” he makes it clear to the Associated Press.
The government of Trump also orders the cuts without giving more precise instructions. That makes the whole worse, says Spinrad. On the website of the authority, “due to dismissal” was warned of long processing times for questions.
Former Noaa head scientist Craig McLean is also worried. The weather forecasts would aggravate through the job loss and “people will feel it very quickly,” he says. This will also limit the catch options of the commercial fishermen, according to his fear.
NASA releases 23 employees
As reported, there are also fired from a second science authority: the American Chamber of Driving Authority NASA. “To optimize our workforce and in accordance with a scheme, NASA starts with a phase -based approach to a reduction in the workforce,” says the Space Agency. A total of 23 employees are affected, including the senior scientist from the authority, Katherine Calvin.
