The government has decided that the National Fund for Victims of National Socialism no longer needs to be with the National Council President. Walter Rosenkranz (FPö) can now withdraw or remove from the roll. Earlier, voices sounded that his resignation demanded repeatedly.
In the future, the National Council must also be able to vote for the second or third national council chairman. These are currently Peter Haubner (ÖVP) and Doris Bures (Spö). The first president of the National Council could only be represented for specific cases. The government has now agreed a change together with De Groenen, the FPö was against it.
The duties of the National Fund are the restoration of victims, surviving persons and descendants. These are not only the FPö, but also Walter Rosenkanz, the party said. “The fact that this new law must now be excluded by this from the chairman is not a contribution to reconciliation and culture of commemoration that should not be denied to anyone, especially not the strongest democratic party in Austria,” said Justice spokesperson Harald Stefan.
ÖVP: Jewish community refuses dialogue
A change in the law is also possible without the voices of the FPö. In the past, the requirements for resigning rosary have been repeatedly loud, for example from the Israeli cultural community. IKG President Oskar Deutsch has now described the planned changes as “wise”, which would be “responsibility towards the victims of national socialism.”
“In his inaugural speech as President of the National Council, Walter Rosenkranz himself knew that he is not going to” go to the side if a person like parts of the Jewish community in Vienna and the whole of Austria have a dialogue with him, “said ÖVP Constitutional spokesperson Wolfgang Gertl,” we take him in accordance with his word. “
Lukas Hammer, spokesperson for the right -wing extremism for the Greens, pointed out that the former office manager of the National Council President would be investigated for violations of the prohibition law. “I hope that Rosenkanz is now taking his responsibility and is generally displayed to further guarantee the good cooperation of the National Fund with the representation of the victims,” said Sabine Schatz, Spokesster Spö for the commemorative culture.
