“Together we will clear the way for peace,” American President Donald Trump announced in November when he was nominated by his Ukraine representative Keith Kellogg. But just in the two most important meetings with high-ranking representatives of Russia and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia, the former Lieutenant General did not participate. Now it is clear why he was missing.
As the American broadcaster NBC News reported on Thursday, Russian leadership Kellogg should have rejected as a negotiator. “He is too new for Ukraine. He is not our type. He does not have the caliber we are looking for, “the broadcaster quoted a Russian officer who wanted to remain anonymous.
An American insider who also did not want to be called by name confirmed the information. However, he could not say when Moscow had told the White House. An investigation into the Kellogg office remained unanswered.
In Washington, however, according to the NBC news, it was emphasized that Kellogg, but also in the process for a “peaceful solution for the Ukraine war”, was in addition to a large number of high-ranking officials, but also in the process. He works “closely with our European allies”.
Moscow “Carefully optimistic”
The Kremlin should have far fewer problems with the American specialist Steve Witkoff. After a conversation between President Vladimir Putin and Witkoff on Thursday evening in the Kremlin, Putin’s spokesperson Dmitri Peskow said that there was “reason for careful optimism”. Putin received the special envoy on Friday evening and sent him a message for US President Donald Trump.
The Kremlin boss is “fundamental solidarity” with Trump about the issue of Ukraine, but “a lot of work can still be done,” Peskow continued. The day before, Putin had become approval of a ceasefires -the US presented by the US in the war against Ukraine. During a press conference, he called for a permanent peaceful solution for the conflict – but he did not implement the maximum requirements that had already been expressed.
So he again emphasized claims in the Ukrainian area. Putin also demanded that asking to control the ceasefire should be clarified. It is unclear how the location along the front line that extends “more than 2000 kilometers” must be observed. Moreover, Ukraine is not allowed to use it -Furen to refuse.
