Microsoft Founder Bill Gates is committed to the continuation of international health programs in the US government. His foundation cannot replace the role of the White House, he said.
“Bill was recently in Washington DC to talk to decision makers about the life -saving importance of American development aid and to emphasize the need for a strategic plan to protect both the weakest worldwide and to protect American health and safety,” said a spokesperson for the Gates Foundation on Tuesday.
A withdrawal from the United States can jeopardize central projects of the Gates Foundation, for example to eradicate the paralysis of children and to fight malaria, an insider said. The organization must first check whether and to what extent it could collect the programs involved. Gates also expects the further support of the World Health Organization (WHO). US President Donald Trump had put forward the first day of his term of office.
Billions frozen
He also initiated a conversion of the USAID of the US Development Aid Authority. 80 percent of the contracts were lowered, billion dollar amounts for tools were frozen, including emergency aid and malaria prevention. The US Department of Foreign Affairs is currently investigating the foreign aid under the “America first” policy should and which should not be continued. About 30 programs are on the test, including the Global Fund to combat aids, tuberculosis and malaria.
The Gates Foundation was founded in 2000 and has an annual budget of more than eight billion US dollars. In the past, Gates met high – -racing government representatives on topics such as malaria and covid -19.
